Visit the Newport Aquatic Center in Newport Beach

The Newport Aquatic Center is located in the Dover Shores area of Newport Beach. The Newport Aquatic Center was originally founded in 1987. It is a not for profit facility offering aquatic activities for the public including canoeing, kayaking, rowing and outrigger canoe competition. What a great way to view Newport Harbor and the beautiful homes located on it. Also, explore the Back Bay area, while getting exercise and enjoying the out of doors.

The Newport Aquatic Center has summer classes and there are youth programs to participate in. The Outrigger Canoe program blends canoeing with the Hawaiian culture. In fact, there was just a race from Newport to Avalon, Catalina on September 6th and 7th. Avalon is approximately 26 miles from Newport Beach - those athletes are in great shape to compete in this event.

The NARF - Newport Autumn Rowing Festival is coming up on November 2nd, 2008 and there will many different events for men and women.

Sharon, if I lived in your area I would definitely partake of the canoeing and kayaking activities. What diversity of things to do on the water.
Sharon ... nice post re Newport Aquatics Center. We like kayaking and get out there from time to time. Harrison
Sharon, I have always wanted to go kayaking---but would love some classes first. This center sounds lovely (and I could certainly make use of it--my water skills aren't the best :)
I was just up there a couple of months ago. We took a leisurely drive from San Diego to Long Beach specifically to see Aquarium of the Pacific. I've always loved Newport Beach. Pretty, friendly, clean, etc.
Gary - it is a great activity and great exercise. And another way to get up close to what you want to see. There is nature on the back bay and loads of birds . . . it is a great way to spend the day!
Harrison - I love to kayak and it is fun to do with two people. We kayak on the canal in the Newport Shores area.
