August 1, 2008 Today, my first born Heather turned 18 years old. I am sure many of you have gone through this before, and it is a milestone for me and for my daughter. I am so proud of the young lady she has become, and her goals of what she is striving for. While I am melancholy about now officially having an "adult" daughter, I am so proud of her. I am proud of her achievements thus far. She is a lifeguard for the state of California, a competitive athelete, just graduated from Newport Harbor High School, and is starting college in less than a month. My daughter is a huge music fan (thankfully we like the same music), and likes rock and roll from the 70's and 80's. We met Brian May (lead guitarist for Queen).

Happy Birthday!

Sharon: You certainly have a right to be proud! She is a beautiful young woman who will be off to collage soon. Happy Birthday to Heather, and congrat's to you, for a job well done (raising a fine member of society!).
Loved the pic's!!!
Thanks Kat . . I am going to share this blog with her! She is definitely an asset to society!
Happy Birthday Heather! Good luck at college. I hope you have a wonderful time.
My son is going to be 11 in 18 days and I can't even imagine that... I don't know how I will feel about him turning 18.
My son Jacob is in the Junior Guards program down there on the Peninsula. He has been having a blast. Did Heather participate in it when she was younger? He is looking forward to having a job that is much better than "flipping burgers" when is old enough.
Sharon, I love it when you highlight your family. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEATHER !!! What a great young lady. I know Mom is proud. You make good young adults Sharon....
Sharon, It is wonderful to be able to be so proud of your children. She is a beautiful girl who looks like her mother!
Congratulations!!! and Happy Birthday, Heather. Your daughter sure looks alot like you.
Congratulations to you both, Sharon. That's a huge milestone for you both. When I first scrolled to the picture with Brian May, I thought I was looking at Jimmy Page. That would have made me insanely jealous. Very cool to meet Brian nonetheless. Best of luck to both of you as she heads into the world.
Sandra - that is awesome that your son is participating in junior guards (I have an 11 year old daughter and she did not want to participate this year). Heather did participate in it and loved it, and that is what geared her towards lifeguarding! Thanks for commenting!
Gary - I am proud of her, and I wanted to share more about my life with you here.
Shirley - thanks for the very nice compliment!
Loreena - I used to call my girls "mini me" and "micro me" (I have a younger one as well).
Paul - I should write a post about the people that we have met and that Heather has met - they incude Joe Walsh, Paul Rodgers, Brian May, Gilbey Clark. And each time it was a blast!!!
Sharon, as a followup to you, definitely save that picture of Heather at the guard tower. It is excellent photography. I think she gets her Baywatch beauty from YOU ; ) I forgot to mention it is great you all get to hobnob with the celebrities in your area like Brian May. I have always been a BIG fan of the band Queen. You sure do make good "mini mes" and "micro mes". You have a lovely family Sharon. Thank you so much for bringing all of us closer into your life!!
Gary - thanks for the nice comment. I have taken some great photos right in front of her tower (dolphins, lifeguard rescue boat, waves) it is a very active beach! We are huge fans of Queen as well and have seen them several times (with Paul Rodgers not Freddie - too bad).
Sharon, beautiful ThemThem to your beautiful daughter. Happy Birthday Heather, hope your birthday was a great one.

Sharon: You'll enjoy having an adult daughter. We are much kinder and gentler than our teenage counterparts. I know I am much better to my Mom as an adult!
Chris Ann - thanks for the comment. I enjoyed her as a teenager too - but look forward to this stage as well!
