Hurley US Of Open Surf Contest 2010

Hurley US Open of Surfing 2010

Hurley US Open of Surfing

The Hurley US Open of Surfing contest will conclude today. The men's finals are being held today in Huntington Beach right at the Huntington Beach Pier. The Hurley US Open is a great opportunity to view world class surfers.

Carissa Moore from Honolulu, Hawaii and is 17 years old, won the Association of Surfing Professionals 6-Star Women’s US Open of Surfing yesterday. Moore won the first place prize of $50,000.

Other events today include the men’s final, and it really is an amazing event. The Hurley US Open was packed with spectators, and photographers to capture some of the events. Some of the other activities include BMX, and live music. Yesterday Weezer played to a crowd of approximately 50,000 people.  Throughout the day, there were crowds of up to 150,000 people. If you plan on attending, I would recommend getting there early to secure parking, or if you are local, ride your bike or walk.

This surf contest has been running for this past week, and the finals are being held this weekend. These are some photos I took yesterday from the Huntington Beach Pier.

The tents and spectator viewing area. There were lots of people who came to Huntington Beach to view not only this event, but the USLA National Lifeguard Championships which was being held right at Beach Boulevard and Coast Highway.

It really is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the California climate (the sun finally came out). Enjoy meeting some new friends, and if you enjoy taking photos this is an amazing event.

Hi Sharon,

Wow, I knew you'd have great photos from today, but you've out-done yourself this time. Were you on the pier for any of these, you've got such great close ups?

Great crowd shots, and talk about crowds...yikes so many people! Great job my friend.

Hi Lynda - thank you so much - yes I was on the pier, I have a specific spot that I like to go . . and for crowds . . . it was crazy. I felt like I was at a concert wrapped up with the people. But worth it for sure!

Hi Rebecca - thanks. It did clear up and become a nice day, and the surfing was amazing to watch.

Sharon I bet the Hurley USA Open is a very fun event to watch! We don't have much surfing out this way.

I had no idea there was a US Open for surfing.  That's what happens when you grow up in the suburbs of Washington, DC.

I remember the first time I went to Huntington Beach way back in 1968 when I was 13. I never had so much fun in my life!
