Jodie Nelson, who is a resident of San Clemente, California completed the nine hour paddle from Catalina Island to Dana Point Harbor on a stand up paddle board. Jodie Nelson was competing in this race to raise money for breast cancer awareness and prevention. Early detection is the key. Nelson was also paddling on behalf of a friend who has been fighting breast cancer. Her mother and aunt are also breast cancer survivors. Watch the interview with Jodie Nelson after she completes her paddle and talks about her encounter with the whale which Nelson affectionately named "Larry".
During this incredible paddle, Jodie Nelson encountered a 30 foot Minke whale who swam with her for two hours during her incredible journey across the Pacific Ocean. According to the GrindTV blog, the whale swam along side of her, and blew bubbles beneath her stand up paddle board.
What an incredible site, and I am sure seeing Larry the Whale must have inspired her to finish during her grueling paddle across the ocean.
Jodie Nelson is raising money for breast cancer awareness, and her charities are Keep a Breast Foundation, and Boarding for Breast Cancer.
What an experience this must have been! Thank you for raising money for this important cause.
