If you trying out for the Huntington State Beach Lifeguard program, make sure you show up at least 30 minutes before the event. The swim starts promptly at 9am, so I would recommend arriving no later than 8:30 am.You will want to bring something warm to put on after the swim, as the water is cool this time of year. Many swimmers do not wear wet suits as seen in the photo below. This photo was taken a couple of years ago.

What a great job to have and a tough one to get too. I would be happy if I were in half as good of shape as those folks in the photo.

John - you are absolutely right. They are in great shape, and honestly unphased by the water temp. That would have me out! My daughter is going to be a 4th year lifeguard for HB State Lifeguards, and it is an awesome and necessary job.

Sharon, I wish all the entrants the best of luck....I keep thinking what a gorgeous place to be a lifeguard and get to spend your days outside!

Sharon...I wish all the entrants the best of luck. I am afraid of water (almost drowned when I was five) and really glad that the lifeguards CAN swim...:)

Sharon, what a great place to work!  I imagine that the job is fun, yet thankless at times.  I wish all the participants well!

Sharon - It's been a really long time since my Speedo days. . .LOL  But I still manage to swim a couple miles a few times a week!

The idea of tryout for lifeguarding jobs is so strange to a landlocked Wisconsin girl, especially at this time of year!

Imagine having to try out for a lifeguard position in the rain. You might get wet! LOL
