Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted the 47th annual Sandcastle Contest
The 47th Annual Sandcastle Contest was yesterday in Corona del Mar. The sandcastles are absolutely amazing. There are architecture firms, businesses, families and children competing in this event. It is a great way to spend the day with your family either building the sandcastles or just watching the incredible talent. I went to the sandcastle contest with my two daughters Heather and Morgan.
Here are some photos of the sandcastles.

Here is one called Gold in the Bird's Nest representing the Olympics in Bejing 2008.

This one here is called the "Sand Witch".
You can see the incredible detail that is put into each sandcastle. I thought this one was very clever!!

There were some other ones that were pretty interesting, and there was other tributes to the Olympics including this last one which was called "Going for Gold".
The people who built the sandcaslte's skill levels ranges from the very basic to the most detailed. For more information, rules and prizes, please view this page. The construction of the sandcastles was from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and judging began at 3:00 pm. I was not able to stay for the judging because of an appointment, however I did go back when they were completed to view the finished products.
